Involvement

BG 3.35

“It is far better to discharge one’s prescribed duties, even though they may be faulty, than another’s duties. Destruction in the course of performing one’s own duty is better than engaging in another’s duties, for to follow another’s path is dangerous”.

When you realize the value of your existence, only then will you put your time and energy into the task at hand. The essential reason for lack of involvement is you have not realized the value of your existence. Only to the extent that you are involved will life offer you its juice. Involvement is like the currency of life. To extract the joy of living, you need to be involved in whatever you are doing whether it is eating, sleeping, playing and other activities.

The only way to know and experience life is through involvement. How will you know what is good or no unless you invest your time and energy in it? If you do not get involved because you do not like the people who are here, and you wait for some ideal people to get involved with, you will see how many problems you will have with those “ideal” people. When you meet God, you can show more involvement, but until then, involve with the people who are here now. It does not matter whether the situation is to your liking or not, whether you approve of it or not. Just be in the moment and live it fully.

Involvement does not mean you have to do what everyone is doing. It does not mean you have to do a particular thing – it is the way you are; You undertake your activities with undivided attention just as how a mother tends to her baby whatever be the action- drinking water, playing, praying. If you get involved, every moment of your life will be a new opening.

When you are deeply involved with everything that you are in touch with right now, only then do you see everything clearly, the way it needs to be seen. When you see things like this, it is very easy to create anything because it is just a question of what material you have in your hands and how to put it together. Creativity is mastery of simplicity. When you are creative, you make do with what best you have at your disposal.  If you develop the means to truly observe what is happening within you on all levels of who you are, then you would be enormously creative. But even if you just observe what is happening around you constantly, you will see there is always a way to do the same thing in a more innovative way.

Lord Krishna is the best example of involvement. At every stage, he was involved with his life fully- whether it was playing with his friends, playing the flute, performing His leela or whatsoever. He never had a mark of tension in life. He was always satisfied with whatever he got- whether it was a curse or a blessing. No complaints. Just enjoy the beauty of life despite its deceptive waves. He was involved yet he remained untouched, detached. Involvement doesn’t mean attachment. Being involved with something and attached to something are two different things. Attachment gives rise to grief, involvement gives joy.

So try and involve and be joyful because in this short life, what’s the point of complaining about every small thing? Sometimes, there is more good in what we get than what we expect. All we need to do, is see with the right perspective.

Wishing you all a very Happy, Prosperous and a Successful New Year! May you all dreams come true!
